Advancing digital - career planning tool
A career planning tool that enables the BMBC project staff and project partners to provide customised learning pathways to support the progression of individuals within the digital skills arena.
Client details
dreamm are proud to have been selected by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC) to partner with them on the design, build, and delivery of an online digital skills directory and career planning tool to support the advancement of digital skills and careers in the South Yorkshire region (and beyond!).
Requirements
The requirement for digital skills is becoming increasingly prevalent in the labour market and increasingly specialist digital skills are required to support the creative and digital industries along with those required to support modern business models.
BMBC wants to be at the forefront of this industrial change by providing a centralised, free resource that the local workforce can access if they want to upgrade their digital skills, learn new digital skills, or get support, training and advice on how to enter the digital marketplace.
Proposed solution
A comprehensive review of the open market provision for digital learning resources which are free to access for local people (either online or face-to-face). The design and creation of a free, online comprehensive directory in an accessible user-friendly format that can be accessed by anyone looking for digital skills training. A career planning tool that enables the BMBC project staff and project partners to provide customised learning pathways to support the progression of individuals within the digital skills arena.
Outcomes
The Digital Skills Directory lists over 500 free training resources and provides either direct links to access the content or contact information for the training provider. The BMBC project team is also on hand to provide a more personalised experience through the Career Planning Tool which has over 250 additional training resources that can be structured by the project team and their partners into a tailored learning plan.
Response
The Digital Skills Directory and Career Planning Tool site launched in January 2022 and feedback from the wider BMBC project team and their partners has been overwhelmingly positive.
