Who are Unionlearn?
unionlearn was established in May 2006 under the auspices of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to promote the uptake of learning and skills in the workplace and to manage the Union Learning Fund (ULF), which was set up by the government in 1998.
Climbing Frame - Updating knowledge for learning opportunities
Unionlearn's main objectives are to expand and improve the level of training and development for trade union officials and representatives, increase the number of Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) in the workplace and provide access to learning opportunities for greater numbers of workers.
The Climbing Frame is a web-based tool designed for union learning representatives. The system is used be used to:
- provide up to date information to help during discussions with learners
- update ULRs knowledge about various learning opportunities
- develop individual action plans with learners
- keep records of sessions with learners
- allow unions to maintain their own versions
Mobile app development
After the initial development and successful deployment in 2010, a companion mobile app was commissioned in 2013, bringing the tool to learners on the move with iOS and Android apps.
Design Refresh
The Climbing Frame website has been in continual use since dreamm launched the first version in 2010. Since then it’s been used by thousands of reps and learners. To ensure that the target audience is getting the best possible experience, the unionlearn team wanted to give the site a modern look and feel as well as enhancing some of the existing functionality to both the online and mobile versions.

It has been a pleasure to work with dreamm again on the creation of a new look for the Climbing Frame website. The team were great at understanding our requirements, project management was suberb, the responsiveness of staff was fantastic and everything went as planned. We are thrilled with the result.
